Newark is located just 33 miles east of Columbus and is found at a fork in the Licking River. Newark was first settled in the early 1800's when construction of
a railroad system began that ran through Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Chicago, and St. Louis. In 1867 the Central Ohio Railroad finally connected Newark west to the city of Columbus.
