Computers introduced in 1971
Failed
In 1971, the Kenbak-1 is generally considered to be the world's first personal computer.
It was designed by John V. Blankenbaker, and included 256 bytes of memory, ran at about 1MHz, and sold for $750.
Unlike many earlier machines it was a true stored-program (Von Neumann) computer.
The world wasn't ready for the PC, personal computer. After selling only 40
units, Kenbak Corp. went out of business in just two
years.
“I think there is a world market for maybe five
computers.” – Thomas Watson, chairman of IBM, 1943
